The 2011 'Loberg Centruy'

I have been taking some well needed rest off of the bicycle. The past week October 10 and the 11 I rode a bit. Not much though, due to shorter days and not being equipped with lights keeps weekly rides shorter. The two days during the week were with Ryan and Monday was completely an easy ride and Tuesday had some intensity, then I was off the bike till Sunday for the Loberg Century.

The Loberg Century is a ride that Erik invites all of his friends and then some too. He has snacks a sag vehicle and a planed course with certain stop points. It is always held early fall, so weather could be a factor. This is my third year in it, first year I rode it three years ago and last year I was injured so I drove the sag car and this year I was able to ride it again. This year the temperature was in the 50's which is pleasant, but very very windy.  It was a small group of 11 riders, which I believe is the smallest group so far.

There is one road that is gravel with some tarmac which is really fun! You are going down hill and has some pretty sharp curves and adding the gravel makes it a bit tricky, but if you have some skills you get through it easily, as long as you stay in your comfort zone. One kid rode out of his comfort zone and crashed on this road. He is okay, and has some road rash. We stopped at a gas station and he was able to get cleaned up. He then rode in the car for a while until rest stop #3, then he rode with us to rest stop #4. Not sure how long he rode with us after that.

This year we stopped at Erik's house and he had someone grilling hot dogs, this was rest stop #4. This was very nice of him to do this!

After rest stop #4, Ben and Dan were putting the hurt on me with the tailwind. We only had about 15 miles till we were finished and they were pushing the pace, OUCH.

All in all what a great ride and hopefully more people can make it next year!
