Velo Cause R.R., MOSH Criterium, Velo Cause Crit.

It was a busy weekend. Saturday started with a road race, Sunday was a criterium and Monday was also a criterium.
Saturday was the Velo Cause Road Race. It was held in Palmyra, WI. The weather was a bit windy with lots of sunshine and temperature was in the 80's. The course was just over 8 miles per lap and had one climb that was challenging for me. I had to do 5 laps. I placed 7th. Here is a video of some of the last lap and finishing sprint.

Sunday was the MOSH Criterium and was held at the Midwest Orthopedic Specialty Hospital in Franklin, WI. This course was AWESOME! Very technical that went through the parking lot. You were always turning. It did have a slight hill on it. The weather was not great, but I was happy to just stay dry for the most part. Very cloudy, windy and the average temperature was 54 degrees. It was a very active race with lots of attacks. With the unpredictable weather the fields were very small. M1,2,3 only had 11 or 12 racers. I finished 5th and that was good enough to win $20.00. Here is a video of the 1st and last lap of the race.

Monday was the Velo Cause Criterium and was held at Concordia University in Mequon. Weather was partly cloudy, very windy and in the 70's. The course was relatively flat. There was a 3 man breakaway that stayed away. When the break happened I was pretty gassed from being very active to try to make sure I wouldn't get caught out of a break. I finished 6th. Darn it, 1 position out of getting any $. Here is a video of the first and last lap.

All in all it was a great weekend!

WIN!

Saturday the race was held in Neenah. Wheel & Sprocket was the host team. The weather was awesome! Sunny and in the 80's and the winds were mild-ish. The field was small (25 guys) especially for the nice weather.
During the race I felt really good. I was being very active with certain guys trying to establish a break. Other than these attempts I felt the race to be pretty easy. I was positioning myself very well throughout the race. One the last lap I was third wheel and was positioned well. The guy in front of me did a awesome job fighting stay on the front and out of danger allowing me to sprint around him at the very last second for the win! See below for the on board footage.

Sunday the race was held in Salem Park. Kenosha Velosport was the host. The weather looked very iffy. The rain did hold off, but it was a bit windy. The course was really rolling, too much climbing for me. Again the field was small (11 guys) not sure why? I didn't stay with the lead group, I finished 8th. See below for the on board footage of the guys pulling away.

Bone Ride

I decided to do the Bone Ride again this years. I was unsure about doing it again, but the weather was good so why not? Sunny and upper 50's, can't go wrong. A great day to ride 160 miles.
I started in Wauwatosa at a team mates home. Another team mate met us at his house too. Three of us strolled over to the start point. At the start there were others waiting for the start. It was very chilling at 8am. We rolled out to Madison for lunch and then rolled back. Here is a little video from yesterday.

Muskego Race

Muskego race was this past Saturday. Weather was good, temperature was 60 and mostly sunny. The course is challenging for me. It is held at Muskego Park and it is a bit hilly for me.
I have a cold and I wouldn't normally race sick, but I am currently holding 2nd place in the WCA overall standings in my age bracket. So, the points monkey is keeping me going.
There was a very big break that I almost managed to get into. I unfortunately didn't push it to latch on and that was basically it for me. If I wasn't sick I believe I would have made the break. Oh well. I did manage to win the group sprint though. It's just too bad that it was for 17th place.

LAX

I spent this past weekend racing my bike in the La Crosse area. Friday evening was a uphill TT, Saturday was a criterium, and Sunday was a road race.
Friday I left work early to start the journey. The weather was cool, upper 50's, cloudy and breezy. It is a 2.4 mile up hill TT. I did it in 10 minutes 18 seconds, averaging 13.7 mph. I placed 16th out of 23. I was very pleased with that. I am happy that I wasn't last.
Saturday was the criterium race. A flat 4 corner criterium. It was warm, upper 70's to lower 80's, sunny and breezy. A 3 man breakaway stayed away and we were racing for 4th. I was positioned well on the last lap and was on what I thought was a good wheel. His teammate said hop on and he started to go with him but then backed off. That blew it for me. If he would have kept going with his teammate I could have done better. I am not complaining because I still did very well and that is all part of racing. I finished 7th out 42. This was a payout too of $20.00!
Sunday was the road race. For me I had to race 56 miles. Master 1/2/3 35+ were the first ones to go in the morning, 8:30am. It was 55 to start, partly cloudy and windy. It would warm up nicely and become sunny. This race is brutal for me! The very first lap was super hard. I had to do 4 laps. I wasn't able to stay with the lead group on the long climb. I was with a group and our group kept getting bigger. I think we eventually had about 10 guys riding tempo. On the last climb they pushed it a little and I didn't have anything in the tank. I was popped, but there were others also. I was passed by 1 guy and then finished solo. I was happy to finish and pretty happy with my result too. I finished 19th out of about 25.
Overall it was a great weekend! It was a nice block of training and now I am looking foreword to recover and become a little stronger.
